My life is a bit of a multiverse, where I work across different realms and spaces as a means to explore different parts of myself, my practice and my craft. This diversity of work is the foundation of my livelihood and inspires continuous growth and evolution in my world. A quote left to me by my grandfather Bob Daly, states - "Get this straight: Life is a journey- not a guided tour!" I started my journey after graduating with an Industrial Design degree from Emily Carr University, where I wanted to design cars or computers for Apple. The course of my life changed after my mother Janet Daly passed away in 2011 and I decided that the pacific northwest would be home. Instead of looking south or across the Atlantic, I decided to focus on what was in my own backyard and explore how I could contribute my skills to growing a culture of art and design in Vancouver. After a pivotal series of courses at Emily Carr I became interested in working with wood and developing creative projects using modern technology and local BC Species. My pursuits in wood guided my journey and I became focused on developing an ecosystem in Vancouver where I could work and create with others and showcase unique works and expressions of art, design and craft. As opportunities presented themselves, I involved myself in anything that felt aligned with my principles and values which expanded my experience far beyond that of an Industrial Designer. Over the last decade, I have experienced my fair share of failures with a handful of successes, and it's the wisdom I have from this and the people whom I met that keep me moving forward.
When the road that you have chosen leads you somewhere far astray,
take the consequences in a sporting sort of way.
Not only with endurance, but with cheerfulness and song,
your next decision may be right although your last was wrong.
Railing at your fate and looking backward with regret,
only makes you gloomier and even more upset.
There's no such words as failure to the folk of solid heart,
they call it an experience and make another start.
Get this straight: Life is a journey - not a guided tour
